English in Action – A Report

From the 27th – 29th May, three teachers from the UK came all the way to our school to help Year 10 prepare for their oral examination in English.

So what did we do?  We had three days of solid English – no school or any other subjects.  We had to speak English, because the teachers couldn’t speak German.  Even when we didn’t know a word or how to express ourselves, we had to describe what we meant in English.  I mean they couldn’t translate the words.  There were many activities that helped us prepare for the oral examination.  These activities were way less boring than general English lessons.  For example, we solved a made-up crime, played a survival game, did role plays and other enjoyable tasks.  Many people even started thinking in English.  At first it was pretty exhausting but it got easier over time.  I personally have to say that the exhaustion was worth it.  I am in an advanced course and my vocabulary improved.  Many students in the advanced courses said the same thing.  We also noticed that the basic course students got more fluent and confident in the language after they participated in “English in Action”.

In conclusion you could say that many students, including me enjoyed the three days and found it very beneficial.  I would highly recommend it to students who struggle with English or want to expand their fluency.
